A little hall of mirrors for salt and pepper
The Addison Ross Bobbin Salt or Pepper Mill in Chrome takes its job seriously, although visually it has little interest in keeping a low profile. Four rounded forms are stacked to create the distinctive Bobbin silhouette, transformed here by a highly polished chrome-effect finish. Light, tableware and the room itself are reflected across its surface, making the 24 cm mill look slightly different wherever you place it. This Addison Ross mill is crafted from acrylic with a glossy chrome-effect surface and fitted with a ceramic grinding mechanism. Its 7 cm base gives the slender, sculptural shape a reassuring foundation. Whether it becomes your salt or pepper mill is entirely up to you: two polished stainless-steel screw knobs are included, one marked “S” and the other “P”. The fitted knob also allows you to adjust the grind. The result is a practical kitchen essential disguised rather convincingly as a decorative object. And yes, the occasional fingerprint may make an appearance. With this much shine, a soft cloth simply becomes part of the relationship.
Shines on the table, gets to work in the kitchen
Behind its reflective appearance is a mill designed for everyday use. The ceramic grinding mechanism is operated with a simple clockwise turn, while tightening the top screw knob produces a finer grind. Addison Ross recommends using black peppercorns or dry rock salt no larger than 4 mm. Sea salt, damp salt and pink peppercorns should not be used in the mechanism. Care is equally straightforward: wipe the glossy surface gently with a soft, damp cloth, rather than immersing the mill in water, and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight. It is a useful object that earns its place on the worktop rather than needing to disappear into a cupboard once dinner is over.

Addison Ross was founded as a family business in 1978. What began with a gallery on the Scottish border and later continued with a gallery in Belgravia gradually evolved into a distinctive collection of home accessories. The company initially produced handcrafted frames for galleries and interior designers, followed in the early 1990s by collections featuring marquetry and veneer. Today, the Bobbin collection is one of those designs where the brand's enjoyment of shape is immediately apparent.
