A little golden moment among greenery and candlelight

Fifteen centimetres of Christmas tree and not a single needle on the floor: the Engels Kerzen Tanne S High-Gloss Gold Metallic sculptural candle brings a festive mood into a pleasantly pared-back form. Its tiered silhouette gives the familiar fir tree a graphic, contemporary interpretation, while the glossy Gold Metallic finish catches the light and changes subtly with its surroundings. At 15 cm high and 6.2 cm in diameter, this small sculptural candle is wonderfully compact, making it easy to decorate even when Christmas does not need to occupy half the table. The tree is handmade and dipped in Germany using solid-coloured paraffin wax. It is vegan and made from REACH-certified paraffin. Weighing 120 g, the candle offers a burn time of up to 20 hours. Rather familiar with wax since 1933

There is considerable experience behind this little tree. Engels Kerzen has been making candles in its German manufactory since 1933, developing its traditional roots in ecclesiastical candle making into contemporary collections for interiors and table settings. Material, wick, form and burning characteristics are considered together. This expertise is particularly relevant to sculptural candles, where the wax needs to provide reliable burning qualities while also allowing a precise silhouette and distinctive surface finish. According to Engels, the paraffin used is refined in Germany, REACH-certified and vegan. Paraffin is also dimensionally stable and suitable for longer storage, which is particularly useful for seasonal candles: the tree can disappear after Christmas and happily return the following Advent. As the smallest member of the golden Tanne family, the Tanne S sculptural candle in Gold Metallic is particularly suited to grouped arrangements. Combine it with the M and L sizes to introduce different heights to Advent wreaths, bowls and winter displays. Engels Fine Line taper and pillar candles or Klassik ribbed candles work beautifully alongside it, as do candle holders and carefully chosen table accessories. For an even burn, Engels recommends trimming the wick to approximately 1 cm before first lighting and checking the length again before each subsequent use. Dust and fingerprints on the glossy surface can be carefully polished away with fine nylon, helping to preserve its metallic sheen until the matches finally come out. And should the little tree spend its first few days simply standing there looking rather lovely, that seems entirely reasonable to us.
