A little more height for a rather lovely light

Candlelight can have presence on the table without taking over the entire arrangement. This set of two ENGELS ORIGINAL pillar candles by Engels Kerzen in Ivory manages that balance rather nicely. Each cast pillar candle measures 15 cm high with a diameter of 8 cm, giving it a taller silhouette that works beautifully on its own or as part of a larger candle arrangement. The warm Ivory shade sits between cream and pale beige and pairs easily with wood, glass, ceramics, metal and stronger colours. Made in Germany, the candles are crafted from vegan, REACH-certified paraffin wax and are coloured throughout. A defining feature of the ENGELS ORIGINAL collection is the hand-polished surface with its soft sheen, complemented by the gently rounded rim and subtly recessed candle plate. An integrated burn stop is also part of the design. With approximately 82 hours of burn time per pillar candle, their warm glow is made for more than one evening. Two come in the set – because even candles look rather good in company.

Ivory gets along with almost everything

Ivory is one of those colours that brings an arrangement together without dictating what should surround it. These ENGELS ORIGINAL pillar candles sit just as naturally on a simple candle plate or coaster as they do inside lanterns, on decorative trays or in suitable candle holders. At 15 cm high, they add a calm vertical accent amongst tableware, glassware and flowers on the dining table, while a pair on a sideboard creates a warm pool of light as evening settles in. Things become especially interesting when different candle heights meet. Combine them with shorter and taller pillar candles for an arrangement that feels collected rather than overly styled. In autumn, pair Ivory with natural tones, dark reds and wood; at Christmas and during Advent, bring in fir green, brass or stronger colour accents. Pale ceramics and clear glass give the same candles an entirely different mood in spring. The pillar candles are cast and coloured throughout before each one receives its characteristic polished surface by hand. The paraffin is refined in Germany and, according to Engels Kerzen, is formulated to support a calm and even burn. Traditional craftsmanship, material knowledge and a clean, enduring shape come together in a collection that never feels tied to one season. Mix different heights or colours from the ENGELS ORIGINAL collection, add slender taper candles or keep things deliberately simple with just a few candles on a generous plate or tray. To make the most of the approximately 82-hour burn time per candle, Engels recommends trimming the wick to around 1 cm before first lighting and checking it again before each subsequent burn. Any residue on the wick should be removed, while an excessively high or uneven candle rim can be carefully trimmed while the wax is still warm. A little care, but hardly a ceremony. After that, the candles can simply get on with what they do best: bringing good light into the room.
