Engels Kerzen: Engels Original

Pillar Candle Vermilion 12 cm Set of 2

A shade of red that warms the room

Vermilion can do rather a lot without making a fuss: bring warmth to the table, pick up autumnal tones and, by Advent, look as though it has always belonged there. This set of two ENGELS ORIGINAL pillar candles by Engels Kerzen comes in a rich vermilion red with a clean cylindrical silhouette. Each candle measures 12 cm in height and 8 cm in diameter and is cast in Germany from paraffin wax, coloured throughout and made by hand. The characteristic polished surface gives each red pillar candle its subtle silky sheen, while the rounded, polished rim and gently recessed top create the distinctive ENGELS ORIGINAL shape. The paraffin used is REACH certified and vegan. With a burn time of up to 65 hours per candle and an integrated burn stop, these two are ready for plenty of long evenings. And vermilion? It has considerably more to offer than Christmas alone.

Good light needn't wait for an occasion

The warm red tone creates a considered accent without asking the rest of the room to compete with it. In autumn, pair the pillar candles with wood, dark glass and earthy shades; during Advent and Christmas, try fir green, brass or crisp white. Come spring, vermilion looks unexpectedly fresh alongside blush pink, cream and pale timber. Place the candles on a tray or coaster, inside a lantern, on a candle holder or amongst candles of different heights to create an easy pool of light for a dining table, sideboard, windowsill or coffee table.

For a calm and even burn, Engels Kerzen recommends trimming the wick to approximately 1 cm before lighting and checking it again before each subsequent use. Allowing the candle sufficient time to burn also helps the wax pool develop evenly. Small marks or fingerprints on the polished surface can be carefully removed to preserve its characteristic silky finish.

Even the final polish matters here

The story behind ENGELS ORIGINAL reaches back to 1933. Engels Kerzen manufactures its candles in Germany, combining generations of wax-working knowledge with a contemporary approach to candles for interiors and table settings. The craftsmanship is deliberately visible in the details: the cast candles are given their characteristic top profile, and every ENGELS ORIGINAL candle is polished by hand before it leaves the manufactory. The material receives the same attention. The paraffin is refined in Germany, is REACH certified and formulated to support a calm flame and even burn. The result is a pillar candle where shape, surface, colour and candlelight feel naturally connected.

Two candles, plenty of good company

Use the pair together for a simple arrangement or combine them with other candles to build a more layered display. Within the Engels Kerzen collection, ENGELS ORIGINAL pillar candles in different heights and colours work beautifully alongside taper candles, Fine Line candles or the distinctive Klassik ribbed designs. Add a candle holder, lantern or understated coaster to take vermilion in a graphic, warm or seasonal direction. The rich red also makes an appealing contrast with ceramics, glass and natural materials. These pillar candles can accompany birthdays and dinners just as easily as autumn evenings, Advent and Christmas – or an ordinary Tuesday that could simply do with better lighting.
