Ribbed Candle Velvet Lacquer Ivory 20 cm

A little extra height suits candlelight rather well

Twenty centimetres makes quite a difference to a candle. The ENGELS KLASSIK Ribbed Candle by Engels Kerzen has a taller, slender silhouette that creates presence without demanding the entire room's attention. Measuring 20 cm high and 8 cm in diameter, it combines the familiar proportions of a pillar candle with distinctive vertical ribbing. A matt Velvet Lacquer finish in warm Ivory covers the surface, catching the light rather than reflecting it brightly. This creates subtle variations of light and shadow along the ribs and gives the candle visual depth even when it is not lit. The matt surface is also resistant to fingerprints, a welcome detail when the candle inevitably moves between holder, table and sideboard while you decide exactly where it belongs. Made in Germany from solid-coloured vegan paraffin wax, the candle is dipped and hand-finished, while the paraffin used is REACH certified. An approximate burn time of 95 hours leaves room for plenty of evenings. And, conveniently, plenty of time to reconsider the arrangement.

Ivory has no intention of choosing a season

The manufacturer's Ivory shade sits between off-white and a very pale, warm beige. It brings brightness to an arrangement without the cooler appearance of pure white, leaving plenty of space for surrounding colours and materials. That restraint works particularly well with the taller 20 cm format: the shape can provide the presence while the colour remains calm. A dark candle holder creates a crisp contrast, glass keeps the composition visually light, while wood, natural stone and ceramics complement the warmth of the ivory tone.

Nor does this ribbed candle belong to a particular season. Pair it with greens and pale shades in spring, then introduce natural tones, wood and darker accents in autumn. For Advent and Christmas, greenery, brass or black candle holders change the mood again. Ivory also sits naturally within table settings for weddings, birthdays and other celebrations. As for an entirely ordinary Tuesday? It works rather well there too.

There is plenty of craft behind that quiet surface

Engels Kerzen has been producing candles at its manufactory in Kempen since 1933, drawing on more than 90 years of candle-making experience. The family company's history began particularly with candles for ecclesiastical settings before developing over the decades into a diverse collection for interiors, table settings and special occasions. Production remains in Germany, supported by extensive knowledge of wax, wicks, burning characteristics, colour and form.

Velvet Lacquer is one of the distinctive finishes within the Engels Kerzen collection. Its matt character changes the way the surface interacts with light: instead of a glossy reflection, it creates a quieter sense of depth that works particularly well with the sculptural ribs. The vegan paraffin used for the candle is refined in Germany and selected for reliable, even burning characteristics. These are precisely the details we appreciate at LIVOSY. A difference in height is very much encouraged

At 20 cm high, the Ivory Ribbed Candle has enough presence to stand beautifully on its own, although pairing it with other formats from the ENGELS KLASSIK collection opens up further possibilities. Place it alongside the 15 cm ribbed candle, for example, and let the difference in height create an easy, layered arrangement. Add further colours for contrast or stay entirely with Ivory and introduce variety through candle holders, lanterns and different materials. Arranged on a generous plate or decorative bowl, the candles create a calm focal point on a sideboard or coffee table; on the dining table, they bring warm light amongst plates and glassware.
