Ivory has a quiet way with atmosphere

Pure white might be just a little too predictable here. The ENGELS ORIGINAL taper candles by Engels Kerzen take a softer approach with warm ivory, a shade that settles naturally amongst tableware, glassware, flowers and interior accessories. The set contains four cast, solid-coloured taper candles made from paraffin wax, manufactured in Germany and carefully finished by hand at the candle manufactory. Each taper candle measures 30 cm in height and 2.2 cm in diameter and has a tapered base for placing it in a suitable candle holder. A defining detail of the ENGELS ORIGINAL collection is its hand-polished surface, which gives the dinner candles their subtle silky sheen and makes the ivory shade appear particularly warm in candlelight. The paraffin is REACH-certified, the candles are vegan and each offers a burn time of approximately 13 hours. In other words, they are quite prepared for dinners that last considerably longer than originally planned. Those tend to be the good ones anyway.

A pale shade that gets along with almost everything

Ivory feels restrained without appearing cool, which makes these taper candles particularly easy to live with. On a pale table setting they create a calm tonal composition, while dark wood, colourful ceramics or bolder candle holders introduce contrast. During Advent, the warm neutral works beautifully alongside fir branches, brass and natural materials; in spring, pair it with delicate colours and fresh foliage. Weddings, birthdays, Easter lunches and dinners with no occasion whatsoever are equally good company. The arrangement can be just as flexible. A single dinner candle keeps things clean and understated, while several taper and pillar candles at different heights create a more relaxed composition across a dining table, sideboard or windowsill. Before lighting for the first time, Engels Kerzen recommends trimming the wick to approximately 1 cm and checking it again before each subsequent use. This helps encourage a calm flame and an even burn.

Craftsmanship that prefers to show up in the details

Engels Kerzen has been making candles in Germany since 1933, combining more than 90 years of experience with a distinctly contemporary understanding of colour, form and interiors. The family-run manufactory has its roots in traditional candles for ecclesiastical use, and that accumulated knowledge of wax, wicks and burning behaviour remains part of its work today. With the ENGELS ORIGINAL taper candles, it can be seen in details such as the cast form and distinctive top: the rim is smoothly rounded and polished, while the candle plate curves gently inwards. The surface receives the same attention and every candle is carefully polished by hand before leaving the manufactory. The paraffin used is refined in Germany and REACH-certified. It also creates the subtly translucent, luminous appearance associated with ENGELS ORIGINAL. A candle does not need to make a grand statement about all this. It is rather nicer when you can simply see that somebody cared about the details.

Four ivory taper candles provide an easy foundation for arrangements that can change with the table, season or mood.
