Hermann Bauer: Lima

Picture Frame Sterling Silver 9x13 cm

Shine without making a song and dance about it

A good photograph already has plenty to say, so its frame can afford to leave the decorative acrobatics to someone else. That is precisely the appeal of the Hermann Bauer Lima picture frame for 9 x 13 cm photographs. Its broad, clean surround is made from 925 sterling silver with a smooth polished finish that subtly reflects light and colour while giving the photograph a calm setting of its own. The silver-coloured frame measures 10.7 x 14.8 cm overall, weighs approximately 0.18 kg and is made in Germany. A classic stand on the dark reverse allows Lima to be displayed in either portrait or landscape orientation. Family portrait, travel photograph, wedding snapshot or a picture with a story only you know: the memory does not have to adapt to the frame. With its beautifully restrained design, Lima also achieves something surprisingly difficult: it has presence without competing for attention.

A little calm around the picture

The polished silver surface gives Lima a distinctly different character from more textured picture frames. There is no ornamentation, no hammered finish and no decorative distraction from the photograph itself. Instead, the broad, smooth surround creates a clean transition between the image and the room around it. This makes the sterling silver picture frame wonderfully versatile. Against dark wood, the silver provides a bright contrast; on a pale console it feels quieter, while glass, ceramics and natural materials make equally easy companions. Its compact 9 x 13 cm photo size works beautifully on a bedside table, sideboard, shelf or desk. Lima also makes a thoughtful gift for a wedding, new baby, christening, birthday or anniversary. Better still, the frame can remain part of the home while the photographs inside change with the years.

160 years of silver, and nothing remotely museum-like

Hermann Bauer's silver tradition began in 1863 in Schwäbisch Gmünd. Founder Hermann Bauer trained as a steel engraver and gathered international influences during periods spent in Holland, London and Paris. He initially became known for Renaissance-inspired jewellery before the manufactory increasingly turned its attention to silverware and accessories for the table and home. Today, Hermann Bauer's silver pieces continue to be handcrafted from 925 sterling silver. The philosophy behind them treats silver not as something that needs to wait for a special occasion, but as a material to live with, use and allow to become part of personal stories. A picture frame such as Lima expresses that idea particularly naturally, bringing a precious material together with an entirely personal memory. At LIVOSY, our selected Hermann Bauer collection includes picture frames alongside salt and pepper pieces that bring this long tradition of silver craftsmanship into contemporary homes.

Today's favourite. Tomorrow's memory.

Lima's restrained design makes it particularly easy to combine with different interiors and treasured objects collected over time. A single frame creates a quiet focal point on a small console, while several Hermann Bauer picture frames in different sizes can form a personal arrangement of photographs. Pairing Lima with the more textured Murata collection also creates an appealing contrast between smoothly polished and hammered sterling silver. This means Lima is made not simply for one favourite photograph, but for all the pictures that may earn that place in years to come. Add your 9 x 13 cm photograph, choose portrait or landscape orientation and place it somewhere that invites another glance whenever you walk past.
