Hermann Bauer: Murata

Picture Frame Sterling Silver 9x13 cm

A small frame with quite a presence

A favourite holiday photograph, a family moment or that one picture still waiting to leave your camera roll: the Murata picture frame by Hermann Bauer turns a 9 x 13 cm photograph into a personal part of your interior. Made in Germany from 925 sterling silver, the frame features a distinctive hammered surface that catches the light across countless subtle facets. The result feels beautifully crafted and full of character, yet never distracts from the photograph itself. Measuring 10.7 x 14.8 cm overall and weighing approximately 0.18 kg, Murata sits comfortably even on smaller surfaces. It can be displayed in either portrait or landscape orientation, so the photograph gets to decide which way things go rather than the frame. Its dark reverse creates a calm contrast with the bright sterling silver and provides a discreet backdrop when displayed on a sideboard, console, bedside table or desk.

Let the light join in

The hammered finish is what gives Murata its distinctive personality. Rather than presenting a completely smooth silver surface, the frame is covered in a delicate, irregular texture that allows light to move across it in subtly changing ways. This gives the piece a relaxed character that sits comfortably between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary interiors. The compact 9 x 13 cm photo size is particularly suited to portraits, family photographs, travel memories and pictures of the people you simply like having nearby. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a wedding, new baby, christening, birthday or anniversary. There is something rather lovely about giving a sterling silver frame: the object remains while the photograph inside can change as new favourite moments come along.

Silver made to live with

Hermann Bauer has been working with silver since 1863. Founded in Schwäbisch Gmünd, a city with a long tradition of German precious-metal craftsmanship, the manufactory has more than 160 years of expertise behind it. Founder Hermann Bauer first became known for elaborate Renaissance-inspired jewellery, bringing influences from periods spent in Holland, London and Paris into his work. Over time, the company increasingly turned its attention to silverware and accessories for the table and home. That heritage continues in pieces designed not simply to be admired behind glass, but to become part of everyday life. Murata captures this idea beautifully: genuine 925 sterling silver surrounding something entirely personal. At LIVOSY, our selection of Hermann Bauer includes picture frames as well as salt and pepper pieces, each offering its own expression of the company's longstanding silver tradition.

Silver, photographs and the people in between

Murata does not need elaborate styling to make an impression. Place it against dark wood and the textured silver gains definition; pair it with ceramics, glass or linen and the effect becomes softer and more relaxed. Several Hermann Bauer frames in different sizes can also be arranged together to create a personal collection of photographs without turning the room into a formal gallery. This compact 9 x 13 cm version works particularly well on smaller surfaces or alongside larger frames from the collection. Its restrained shape allows it to settle naturally into both contemporary interiors and rooms filled with collected favourites. Choose a photograph, place it inside and bring a memory back from the camera roll to somewhere considerably nicer.
