Designed in 2000 by Karen Kjældgård-Larsen, Mega Fluted Blue reimagines Royal Copenhagen’s historic Musselmalet Fluted pattern in a strikingly contemporary way. Selected floral elements from the traditional decoration were enlarged and graphically simplified, creating a design that feels rooted in centuries of craftsmanship while remaining distinctly modern.

Every plate is painted entirely by hand, giving each piece its own subtle individuality. Slight variations in the brushstrokes are intentional and form part of the collection’s unique charm. It is precisely these details that give the porcelain its warmth and character.

250 years of craftsmanship beneath three blue waves

Since 1775, Royal Copenhagen has represented exceptional craftsmanship and Danish porcelain artistry. Each piece passes through an extensive process involving modelling, casting, glazing and hand-painting. The blue-decorated collections are traditionally created using the underglaze technique, where the decoration is painted before glazing and permanently sealed beneath a transparent finish.

The famous three blue waves on the underside of every handcrafted piece remain Royal Copenhagen’s enduring symbol of quality, heritage and artistry. Despite its refined appearance, the dinner plate is designed for everyday use — dishwasher safe, microwave safe and made to remain part of the table for years to come.
