Designed in 2000 by Karen Kjældgård-Larsen, Mega Fluted Blue reimagines Royal Copenhagen’s historic Musselmalet Fluted decoration in a bold contemporary way. Selected elements of the traditional floral pattern were enlarged, rearranged and graphically simplified, creating a design deeply rooted in centuries of porcelain artistry while feeling remarkably modern.

Every plate is painted entirely by hand, giving each piece its own subtle individuality. Slight variations in the brushstrokes are intentional and form part of the collection’s distinctive charm. It is precisely these human details that give the porcelain its warmth and character.

250 years of craftsmanship beneath three blue waves

Since 1775, Royal Copenhagen has represented exceptional porcelain craftsmanship and uncompromising quality. From the initial moulding process to glazing and hand-painting, every piece is created with meticulous care. The blue-decorated collections are traditionally produced using the underglaze technique, where the hand-painted decoration is applied before glazing and permanently sealed beneath a transparent finish.

The famous three blue waves on the underside of every handcrafted piece remain Royal Copenhagen’s enduring symbol of heritage, artistry and craftsmanship.
