At 25 cm tall, Scheulen's paper angel is certainly not the shy type. Its sweeping body is crafted from folded paper in a deep velvet red, opening into a dimensional honeycomb structure that changes subtly depending on the angle from which you view it. A rounded head sits above the sculptural folds, while generous gold-coloured wings create a festive contrast against the rich red. A traditional Christmas angel? Only at first glance. The clean, graphic construction gives this familiar motif a contemporary character that works just as comfortably in pared-back interiors as it does among more abundant festive decorations. An integrated magnetic closure holds the angel open, allowing it to stand freely on a dining table, sideboard, windowsill or console. And once Christmas is over, those impressive 25 centimetres become remarkably modest: simply open the closure, fold the angel flat and store it away until Advent returns. Christmas has been part of the story for quite some time

Scheulen's family story began in 1951, when Hans-Ulrich Scheulen started his business as a seed retailer. Growing demand for ribbons, wire, pine cones, candles and other floristry supplies gradually shaped an expanding decorative range. By 1971, the collection had grown to include decorative objects, gifts and seasonal pieces for Easter and Advent. Today, the company is run by Bernd and Lutz Scheulen and celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026. That longstanding connection with seasonal decoration feels particularly at home in a piece like this. The familiar angel motif remains, but folded paper, velvet red and golden wings give it an unexpectedly graphic expression.
