Paper Nutcracker Velvet Red 55 cm

Red suits him. Modesty, perhaps less so.

At 55 cm tall, this nutcracker was never going to hide behind the Advent wreath. Scheulen gives the familiar Christmas figure an especially warm and expressive presence in velvet red, while its unusual material provides the real twist: the standing nutcracker is made from folded paper and opens into a three-dimensional figure with a distinctive honeycomb structure. Numerous narrow layers of paper shape the body, face, headwear and base, giving the traditional silhouette a graphic, almost sculptural quality. A magnetic closure keeps the unfolded figure securely in shape. Once Christmas is over, the 55 cm decoration can be folded again, requiring considerably less storage space than traditional Christmas figures made from wood or metal. The rich red brings immediate warmth to seasonal interiors, making this paper nutcracker an expressive standalone piece on a sideboard, console or windowsill, or a striking focal point within a larger Scheulen Christmas display.

December can handle a little drama

Red belongs to Christmas almost as naturally as candlelight and mysteriously disappearing rolls of gift ribbon. Here, however, the colour feels refreshingly contemporary. The monochrome design does without painted uniform details and allows the folded paper surface to create the character instead. This makes the Christmas figure easy to combine with traditional greenery and natural wood, but equally at home amongst glass, paper, metal and simple candles. Its 55 cm height also introduces useful dimension to seasonal arrangements and makes it an atmospheric backdrop to Christmas table décor. A single larger piece can create a sense of occasion without asking every available shelf to participate in the festivities.

75 years of decoration, with room for new ideas

Scheulen began in 1951 as a seed retailer before expanding into floristry supplies and, later, decorative objects, gifts and seasonal collections for Easter and Advent. Over the decades, the family business developed an extensive world of floristry and decoration and celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2026. This paper nutcracker fits naturally into that story: it takes a motif that has accompanied Christmas for generations and gives it a contemporary expression through material and construction. Rather than imitating a traditional wooden figure, Scheulen uses paper and folding to create something with a character of its own. It is an approach we appreciate at LIVOSY too. Christmas decorations can carry familiar memories without looking as though they have remained in the past.

A grand entrance, a surprisingly small winter residence

For a familiar Christmas palette, pair the velvet red with deep green foliage, warm candlelight and natural materials. Ivory, smoked glass and restrained metallic tones soften the intensity of the red, while additional red accessories create a more deliberate monochrome setting. Combining the nutcracker with paper decorations in other colours from the Scheulen Christmas collection adds different heights, shades and repeating honeycomb textures to the room. And eventually, January arrives. That is when this festive character reveals its practical side: release the magnetic closure, fold the paper figure flat and store it neatly until next Advent. Christmas décor can make a generous impression in December without demanding equally generous storage space for the remaining eleven months.
