Keys, a watch, jewellery and that coin which has been travelling around your coat pocket for three days: the WEICH TODO Small valet tray in Champagne gives everyday essentials a proper place to land, while looking rather good doing it. Measuring approximately 20 x 20 cm, this square handcrafted tray combines supple cowhide leather with an exceptionally soft genuine alpaca fur inlay. Its warm Champagne shade sits somewhere between pale beige and gentle taupe, allowing the leather and fur to blend in an understated, almost tonal way. Press studs secure the four corners of the leather and create the characteristic raised sides, keeping keys, watches, jewellery and other small belongings comfortably contained. WEICH Couture Alpaca brings together traditional craftsmanship in Peru and a German approach to quality. The story grew from founder Jannik Weich's fascination with Peru and its deeply rooted alpaca culture; in 2017 this developed into the first WEICH project together with David Kuttschrütter. For its alpaca fur products, the brand uses Royal Alpaca and works with specialised partners and workshops in Peru. Alpacas have been part of Andean culture for thousands of years, and their remarkably fine fibre is naturally adapted to the dramatic temperature changes of their habitat. WEICH also states that animals are not killed specifically for the fur used in its products: the hides processed are from alpacas that have died naturally or are a by-product of meat production. It gives welcome context to a material whose appeal reaches beyond its remarkable softness.
