A little Champagne for colder days
It looks rather as though the classic hot water bottle finally decided to take cosiness seriously. The WEICH CALMO Junior hot water bottle in Champagne combines a compact natural rubber inner bottle with a handcrafted cover made from 100% Royal Alpaca fur. Measuring 23 x 18 cm with a capacity of 0.60 litres, the Junior version is pleasantly compact, making it easy to keep close on the sofa, in bed or wherever the evening happens to settle. Dense Huacaya alpaca fur gives it an exceptionally soft feel, while the warm Champagne shade brings a gentle, natural tone to the room. Yet the alpaca cover is more than something lovely to touch: alpaca fibres have distinctive thermal properties that help retain warmth for a comfortably long time. Fill the natural rubber bottle with water at a maximum temperature of 60°C; boiling water and the microwave are decidedly not invited. The inner hot water bottle should be replaced no later than two years after purchase and checked regularly for signs of damage. The result is a familiar winter essential transformed into a home accessory you may have very little desire to hide away afterwards.

CALMO Junior is the smaller sibling of the classic WEICH hot water bottle and a lovely choice whenever you want warmth close to the body without unnecessary bulk. Its compact proportions sit comfortably against the stomach, warm cold hands and feet and slip easily into places where a larger bottle can feel cumbersome. Royal Alpaca fur has a natural lustre, is breathable and low-lint, and contains very little lanolin. The particularly dense structure of Huacaya fur gives the cover its wonderfully tactile character while complementing alpaca fibre’s natural heat-retaining qualities. Caring for CALMO is refreshingly straightforward too. Gently shaking it out, carefully vacuuming the fur and brushing it occasionally will help preserve its softness and natural sheen. Professional cleaning is recommended for heavier soiling. As Champagne is a dyed colour, the alpaca fur should also be protected from prolonged direct UV exposure.
From the Andes to the sofa is quite a story
WEICH Couture Alpaca grew from founder Jannik Weich’s personal connection with Peru and his fascination with a fibre that has been part of life in the Andes for centuries. Together with David Kuttschrütter, he developed a brand bringing Peruvian craftsmanship, carefully selected materials and a contemporary approach to home accessories together. WEICH uses Royal Alpaca for its fur products and works with specialised partners and workshops in Peru. The origin of the material is an important part of that story: according to WEICH, alpacas are not killed for their fur. The hides used are sourced from animals that have died naturally or as a by-product of meat production. It gives CALMO a story that goes beyond its irresistible first touch, connecting material, provenance and craftsmanship.
