Warmth has a remarkably soft side
Some hot water bottles disappear back into a cupboard as soon as they have done their job. The WEICH CALMO hot water bottle makes a rather convincing case for staying on the sofa. In Dark Chocolate, its deep, warm brown shade meets an exceptionally soft cover made from 100% Royal Alpaca fur from the Huacaya alpaca. Dense and fluffy with a natural lustre, the fur turns a familiar source of warmth into a home accessory that looks entirely at ease on a sofa, armchair or bed. Beneath the alpaca fur sits a premium natural-rubber hot water bottle with a 1.8-litre capacity. A little winter romance, all 1.8 litres of it
Alpaca fibre is not simply remarkably soft to the touch. Its natural thermal properties help retain warmth, while CALMO's dense Huacaya fur creates a wonderfully comforting feel against the body. Alpaca also contains very little lanolin and is breathable, dust-repellent, low-linting and almost completely resistant to pilling. The result is a classic hot water bottle reconsidered as a companion for long evenings, cold feet and those Sundays when the sofa and a blanket suddenly make an extremely persuasive combination.
For safe use, fill the removable inner bottle with water at a maximum temperature of 60°C. Boiling water should not be used and the bottle must not be heated in a microwave. WEICH specifies a maximum service life of two years from purchase for the inner hot water bottle and recommends checking it regularly for cracks, porous areas or other signs of damage. Caring for the alpaca cover is pleasantly straightforward: gentle shaking, careful vacuuming and occasional brushing help preserve the fur's natural texture and lustre.
From the Andes to the sofa
The story behind WEICH Couture Alpaca began not behind a desk, but with a fascination for Peru, its people and the alpacas of the Andes. Founder Jannik Weich's early travels through the country eventually developed, together with David Kuttschrütter, into a brand combining traditional Peruvian craftsmanship with a German approach to quality. WEICH uses Royal Alpaca for its fur products and works with specialised partners and workshops in Peru. According to the brand, the fur used comes from animals that have died naturally or is obtained as a by-product of meat production; animals are not killed specifically for their fur.
It is precisely this combination of provenance, material knowledge and considered production that makes CALMO feel at home in the LIVOSY collection.
