The WEICH CALMO Junior hot water bottle in Taupe is compact enough to keep comfortably close and soft enough that you may end up holding onto it slightly longer than necessary. Measuring 23 × 18 cm with a 0.6-litre capacity, it is the smaller member of the CALMO collection. Inside sits a classic rubber hot water bottle, while the outside is wrapped in a handcrafted cover of dense alpaca fur. Taupe shifts between warm beige, soft brown and gentle greige, changing subtly with the natural structure of the fur and the light. These small variations are part of the character of the material. The WEICH hot water bottle is handcrafted in Peru, where working with alpaca has deep roots in traditional craftsmanship. Its compact shape makes the Junior version easy to hold against the stomach or back, tuck into your arms or use as a small bed warmer. Practical, tactile and rather good at making cold evenings feel less cold.
Small proportions, plenty of comforting warmth
With a 0.6-litre capacity, CALMO Junior is quick to fill and easy to use in everyday life. Its compact size is particularly well suited to targeted warmth, whether on the stomach, lower back, hands or feet. The alpaca-fur cover is far more than a decorative layer. Alpacas live with considerable temperature changes in the Peruvian Andes, which means their fine fibres naturally possess insulating properties. The dense fur creates a soft layer between the body and the inner bottle, making the warmth feel gentle and comforting. Alpaca fibre also contains very little lanolin and naturally helps repel dust and dirt.
For safe use, fill the inner hot water bottle with water at a maximum temperature of 60°C. Do not use boiling water and never heat CALMO in a microwave. The inner bottle has a maximum recommended service life of two years from purchase and should also be checked regularly for cracks, porous areas or other signs of damage. The alpaca-fur cover itself is relatively easy to care for. Gentle shaking and careful regular brushing help preserve its natural texture, while professional cleaning is recommended for heavier soiling.
From a journey to a world of materials
The story of WEICH Couture Alpaca began with founder Jannik Weich's fascination with Peru. He first discovered the country as a teenager and later returned to learn more about its culture, people and traditional alpaca farming. Together with David Kuttschrütter, this connection developed into a brand from 2017 onwards, combining Peruvian craftsmanship with a German approach to quality. WEICH works with local partners and producers specialising in alpaca fur and wool and uses Royal Alpaca for its fur products.
The provenance of the material is also treated transparently. According to WEICH, no animals are killed specifically for their fur. The hides used come from alpacas that have died naturally or are obtained as a by-product of meat production. The annually harvested wool, meanwhile, remains an important source of income for many farmers in the Andes.
