Warmth in Taupe, without making a fuss
The WEICH CALMO Regular hot water bottle in Taupe turns 1.8 litres of warm water into a remarkably tactile home accessory. Measuring 35 × 25 cm, it is generous enough for the stomach, back or cold feet while remaining easy to hold close on the sofa. Inside sits a classic rubber hot water bottle; outside, dense alpaca fur is handcrafted in Peru. Taupe moves between warm beige, soft brown and a hint of greige, changing subtly with the natural structure of the fur and the light. Those variations are part of the material's character rather than something to hide. The surface feels soft and lively without becoming overly decorative. In other words, it does exactly what a hot water bottle should do, while looking rather more at home in the room than most. A little unfair on the ones still waiting in the cupboard.
1.8 litres for whatever needs a little warmth
The Regular size provides a generous surface for targeted warmth. CALMO works just as well as a bed warmer before sleep as it does on the sofa, across the lower back or simply resting over the stomach. The alpaca-fur cover plays more than a visual role. Alpacas live with considerable temperature changes in the highlands of the Peruvian Andes, and their fine fibres naturally possess insulating properties. The dense fur creates a soft layer between the body and the inner bottle, making the warmth feel gentle and comfortable. Alpaca also contains very little lanolin and its natural fibre structure helps repel dust and dirt.
For safe use, fill the inner bottle with water at a maximum temperature of 60°C. Boiling water should not be used, and CALMO must never be heated in a microwave. The maximum recommended service life of the inner hot water bottle is two years from purchase; it should also be checked regularly for cracks, porous areas or other signs of damage. The alpaca fur itself is relatively easy to care for. Occasional shaking, careful vacuuming and gentle brushing help preserve its natural structure, while professional cleaning is recommended for heavier soiling.
From Peru, with a clear sense of material and provenance
The story of WEICH Couture Alpaca begins with founder Jannik Weich's close connection to Peru. His travels, personal encounters and interest in traditional alpaca farming eventually developed, together with David Kuttschrütter, into a brand from 2017 onwards that combines Peruvian craftsmanship with a German approach to quality. WEICH works with local partners and producers specialising in alpaca fur and wool and uses Royal Alpaca for its fur products.
The provenance of the material is also communicated transparently. According to WEICH, no animals are killed specifically for their fur. The hides used come from alpacas that have died naturally or are obtained as a by-product of meat production. The annually harvested wool, meanwhile, remains an important source of income for many alpaca farmers in the Andes.
