This red has no intention of waiting for Christmas

Vermilion brings colour to the table and makes no attempt to be shy about it. These ENGELS ORIGINAL taper candles by Engels Kerzen come in a clear, warm red that immediately adds presence to a table setting while remaining surprisingly versatile. The set contains four cast, solid-coloured taper candles made from paraffin wax, manufactured in Germany and carefully finished by hand at the manufactory. Each candle measures 30 cm in height and 2.2 cm in diameter and features a tapered base for placing it in a suitable candle holder. Characteristic of the ENGELS ORIGINAL collection is the hand-polished surface, which gives the vivid Vermilion shade a subtle sheen and makes the red appear particularly luminous in candlelight. The paraffin is REACH-certified, the candles are vegan and each provides approximately 13 hours of burn time. Enough for quite a few dinners, including the occasional dessert that was never actually part of the plan.

Vermilion is brighter and livelier than a deep burgundy, making it a natural choice for settings where colour is very much invited to the table. Alongside white, ivory and pale timber, the red feels fresh and graphic; with glass and polished metals, it takes on a more festive character. At Christmas it naturally works beautifully with fir green and seasonal foliage, but these taper candles deserve rather more than a few weeks in December. The clear red feels equally at home at birthday dinners, weddings, Sunday lunches or as a single colour accent on a sideboard. In spring, pair it with blush pink, soft green or colourful ceramics for a surprisingly light composition. One 30 cm dinner candle creates a confident focal point, while several taper candles in different colours and heights make the arrangement more relaxed. For an even burn, Engels Kerzen recommends trimming the wick to approximately 1 cm before first lighting and checking the length again before subsequent use.
