A table, five dice and the surprisingly serious question of whether you really want to score those threes already. Yatzy by PRINTWORKS from the Bazaar series brings the familiar dice game into the distinctive design world of the Stockholm brand. Measuring a compact 15.5 x 11.5 x 4 cm, the box features a geometric diamond pattern in orange, pale blue, cream and warm brown, finished with an orange YATZY label at its centre. Inside are five bright orange dice with white pips, two pale blue pencils and a 50-page score pad, ready to turn “just one game” into a rather longer evening. The set combines paper, wood, polyester and acrylic, weighs just 0.25 kg and is compact enough to take along while looking considered enough to leave out at home. Its paper components are FSC® certified. Play follows the familiar Yatzy format: roll the dice, build combinations and record points for ones through sixes, pairs, straights, full house, chance and, naturally, Yatzy. If Yahtzee, Kniffel or classic dice games already have a place in your repertoire, the rules will feel reassuringly familiar. The presentation, however, is anything but ordinary.

The best screen time tonight happens on paper

PRINTWORKS has a knack for taking familiar games and giving them a reason to stay on the coffee table after everyone has gone home. Rather than disappearing into a cupboard after the final roll, the patterned Yatzy box sits comfortably alongside books, objects and the things you actually enjoy having around. PRINTWORKS was founded in Stockholm in 2017 by Annette and Patrik, inspired by a desire to make a little more room for analogue moments in an increasingly digital everyday life. The idea is refreshingly straightforward: photographs deserve to be looked through, games are better shared around a table and some memories are worth making away from a feed. PRINTWORKS gives these familiar objects a contemporary visual language so they can remain part of the room rather than being hidden away once they have served their purpose. Yatzy captures that philosophy beautifully. The game itself is wonderfully uncomplicated; its presentation feels fresh, graphic and considered.
