A little summer, with no return flight required
Yellow parasols, turquoise water and the sort of sky blue that somehow makes an espresso on an Italian piazza feel like the next logical step: the PRINTWORKS Dolce Vita Photo Album from the Embroidered Collection has captured the holiday mood rather well. Its pale blue cloth cover is decorated with detailed colourful embroidery depicting a sun-soaked beach scene, while green “La Dolce Vita” lettering and cream accents give it the presence of a beautifully designed coffee table book. Measuring 33 × 27 × 5 cm and weighing 1.3 kg, it is certainly not an album that needs to disappear into a cupboard once the photographs are in. Inside are 30 sheets of white photo paper measuring 28 × 21 cm, ready for family photographs, summer adventures and all those images that deserve rather more attention than being number 4,732 in your camera roll. Both sides can be used, providing 60 surfaces to arrange photographs and handwritten notes. The ring-bound construction can also accommodate up to 40 sheets, so there is room for the story to grow when one holiday turns out to have been particularly photogenic.
Your camera roll can wait
A digitally printed photo book is wonderfully neat and convenient. A traditional album offers something different: choosing photographs, arranging them by hand, adding a date or a sentence in the margin and occasionally discovering that everyone remembers the same afternoon rather differently. Give the cloud the afternoon off
PRINTWORKS was founded in Stockholm in 2017 by Annette and Patrik with an affection for analogue moments in an increasingly digital world. The idea is refreshingly simple: familiar objects such as photo albums and games can bring people together while still being beautiful enough to become part of the home. Dolce Vita captures that philosophy particularly well. Sitting somewhere between stationery, keepsake and interior object, it belongs naturally on a coffee table rather than hidden on a shelf. If you enjoy displaying books from publishers such as Assouline or TASCHEN as part of your interior, this PRINTWORKS album offers a more personal take on the idea: the photographs inside are yours. That combination feels very close to the way we see things at LIVOSY too. Objects can add atmosphere to a room, but they become much more interesting when they also carry a story.
Good design has an excellent memory
Dolce Vita brings a cheerful note of colour to a bookcase, console or stack of coffee table books, while its embroidered cover makes it decorative before the album has even been opened. The generous page format leaves plenty of freedom for creating layouts around holidays, family life and favourite summer moments. PRINTWORKS also offers albums with different themes for weddings, babies and other chapters worth keeping, while Dolce Vita is particularly at home with photographs involving sunshine, journeys and long days outdoors. Add extra insert sheets or photo corners and it gradually becomes something entirely your own. And should looking through old holiday photographs lead to a game of backgammon or cards afterwards, PRINTWORKS happens to be rather good at those too. This is an album for keeping memories close rather than simply storing them away – which, we think, is a much nicer place for them.
