Founder Jannik Weich first travelled to Peru in 2009 and developed a lasting connection with the country and its alpaca culture through subsequent visits. Together with David Kuttschrütter, he began developing the idea for a brand in 2017 that would bring traditional Peruvian craftsmanship together with a German approach to quality. According to WEICH, Royal Alpaca is used for its alpaca fur products, which are produced with specialist partners and manufacturers in Peru. Transparency around sourcing and production forms an important part of the brand's philosophy. WEICH states that the hides it uses come from animals that have died naturally or are a by-product of meat production, rather than alpacas being slaughtered specifically for their fur.
