A green trench coat, a yellow leather suit, two men dressed in black – and suddenly there is a whole film playing in your head. PRINTWORKS Memory Movie turns familiar characters from cinema into a clever matching game for film lovers. Rather than looking for two identical images, you match iconic movie characters, illustrated solely through their costumes, with a famous quote from the same film. Easy enough, you might think. Give it a few rounds. The game contains 50 cards, creating 25 pairs in PRINTWORKS’ distinctive graphic style, full of colour, playful illustration and bold typography. Both the cards and box are made from FSC®-certified, acid-free paper. The compact green and multicoloured box measures 14.5 × 10 × 4.8 cm and weighs approximately 0.3 kg, making it easy to keep on a coffee table, tuck into a bookshelf or bring along for a weekend away. It is a memory game that feels less like something destined for the games cupboard and more like a small piece of pop culture for your home. Popcorn, incidentally, is not included. We would still consider it essential.

25 pairs and plenty of “I know this one”

The fun of Memory Movie lies in that brief moment before recognition. You know the costume. You definitely know the quote. Getting the two to meet in your memory is another matter entirely. PRINTWORKS was founded in Stockholm in 2017 by Annette and Patrik, inspired by a desire to bring analogue moments back into increasingly digital lives. The idea is refreshingly simple: photo albums should be opened and shared, games should bring people around the same table, and familiar everyday objects can be designed beautifully enough to remain part of the room once they have served their purpose. Memory Movie captures that philosophy particularly well. Its illustrated green box does not need to disappear into a drawer after the final round; leave it alongside books, photo albums or other games and it becomes part of the setting.
