Founder Jannik Weich first encountered Peru in 2009 and, during later visits, developed a deeper understanding of the country, its people and the close relationship between farmers in the Andes and their alpacas. Together with David Kuttschrütter, he developed WEICH Couture Alpaca from 2017 onwards. The brand brings traditional Peruvian craftsmanship together with a German commitment to quality and works with selected partners in Peru specialising in alpaca fur and wool. According to WEICH, Royal Alpaca is used for its fur products. The origin of the hides is an important part of the brand's approach: WEICH states that animals are not slaughtered specifically for their fur. Instead, it uses hides from animals that have died naturally or hides arising as a by-product of meat production.
