A touch of origami, only considerably shinier

The PHILIPPI LOTUS bowl takes a familiar object and turns it into a playful study of perspectives. Angular, folded surfaces of highly polished stainless steel come together to create an open bowl whose shape recalls the petals of a lotus flower. Depending on where it stands and the angle from which you look at it, fruit, light, the table and its surroundings are reflected differently across the silver-coloured surfaces. Measuring 33 cm long, 33 cm wide and 12 cm high, the PHILIPPI bowl offers generous room for apples, oranges, lemons and other fruit while looking anything but ordinary. At 1.9 kg, this large designer bowl also has a reassuring sense of presence. LOTUS was designed by Firdos Anwar and is made from stainless steel in India. Its polished mirror finish accentuates the geometric form and allows the bowl to change with its surroundings: bright and crisp in the morning, filled with warmer reflections over dinner and particularly striking with an orange or two providing a splash of colour. Even when empty, LOTUS remains an expressive decorative object for the dining table, kitchen island, sideboard or coffee table.

Fruit has found itself a rather good stage

As a fruit bowl, LOTUS combines generous proportions with an open construction that does more than simply hold its contents. Colourful fruit becomes part of the composition. Oranges, red apples, lemons and pomegranates create a particularly engaging contrast against the cool stainless steel, while the differently angled surfaces reflect and multiply their colours and shapes. This changing appearance is part of the appeal: LOTUS is practical enough to live with every day yet decorative enough to remain on display when there is nothing inside it. Its geometric design feels contemporary without tying the bowl to one particular interior style. Placed alongside timber, stone, glass or understated tableware, the silver surface can create a deliberate contrast while reflecting the materials and colours already in the room.

Stainless steel, behaving a little less predictably

PHILIPPI has long been known for home accessories that bring clear functionality together with an individual design language. The owner-managed design company based near Hamburg develops its own collections and works with materials including stainless steel, iron, ceramic, wood and leather. Stainless steel in particular has become an important part of the brand's visual identity. LOTUS demonstrates how differently the material can be interpreted: instead of a calm, continuous surface, it becomes an almost sculptural construction of individual geometric elements. Designer Firdos Anwar translates the idea of an opening flower into a contemporary form that changes subtly with every reflection. It also sits naturally within the LIVOSY philosophy: we appreciate objects that earn their place in everyday life while retaining enough character to remain interesting for years to come.

Apples today. Tomorrow, just light.

LOTUS works particularly well where its mirror finish has room to interact with the surroundings. On a dining table, it can become a generous centrepiece filled with fruit; on a kitchen island, its graphic shape contrasts beautifully with natural materials; and on a sideboard it works equally well as a decorative bowl without any contents at all. Pair it with ceramic, clear glass and warm timber for a calmer composition, or introduce dark surfaces and stronger colours for greater contrast.
