A little skyline for the table

New York has Manhattan; your table gets the slightly quieter version. The PHILIPPI Manhattan Bowl S takes the silhouette of a city and turns it into a flat, round bowl crafted from highly polished stainless steel. Different-height metal elements rise around the reflective surface like a miniature skyline, changing their appearance with the light, viewing angle and colours around them. At 22 cm in diameter and just 4 cm high, this smaller version from the Manhattan collection is pleasantly compact, making it easy to place wherever a grand gesture simply isn't required. Use it on the dining table, coffee table or sideboard as a fruit bowl, decorative bowl or small flat tray. Its weight of 540 g gives the piece a reassuring presence, while the polished silver-coloured surface has a wonderful habit of borrowing from its surroundings. Warm wood tones appear in its reflections, as do the fresh colours of apples, lemons or a small decorative arrangement. The PHILIPPI bowl therefore brings more than stainless steel to the table. Light, reflections and a little architecture come along for the ride.

Twenty-two centimetres with plenty of ideas

It is precisely the compact size that makes the Manhattan Bowl S so easy to live with. A few apples or mandarins sit comfortably inside, while on a console it can hold keys and small favourite objects. Its shallow form also works beautifully as a tray for a carefully chosen arrangement or simply as a decorative object in its own right. The individual stainless-steel elements create an open rim around the bowl without visually enclosing it. This leaves the reflective centre visible and gives Manhattan a surprisingly light appearance despite its all-metal construction. Things become particularly interesting once something is placed inside. One green apple is enough to introduce colour throughout the mirrored cityscape. And when the bowl is empty? The architecture simply takes over. That is part of the charm of this designer bowl: it moves naturally between useful object and interior accessory without making much fuss about the distinction.

Two sizes and a rather lovely view

Thanks to its reflective silver surface, the Manhattan Bowl S slips easily into very different interiors. Against wood, the cool stainless steel creates a warm contrast; alongside glass and clean lines, it takes on a more graphic quality. Add colourful fruit and the miniature skyline develops an entirely new mood. For those who need more surface area, the Manhattan collection also includes the larger Bowl L with a diameter of 29 cm. The two sizes can be arranged together, sharing the same architectural idea while creating different proportions. Manhattan also sits comfortably alongside other PHILIPPI bowls such as Clara, Lotus, Margarethe, Mesh and Trio, as well as vases and selected home accessories from the brand. The smaller Manhattan doesn't really demand much company, though. Twenty-two centimetres, a good spot and perhaps an apple are quite enough to get things started.
