The PHILIPPI Elmar Christmas ornament from the NES collection takes on that role rather charmingly. Made from natural-coloured beechwood, the little elk brings warmth and a gently Nordic feel to festive decorating without becoming overly decorative. Measuring 7 cm high, 6 cm long and 4 cm wide, Elmar is pleasantly understated yet has enough character to be noticed between the fir branches. His rounded body, slender legs, distinctive head and antlers turn a handful of simple shapes into an instantly recognisable little elk, while the natural hanging cord completes the relaxed look. The pale wood works beautifully with deep fir green, warm candlelight, paper stars, glass ornaments and other natural materials. At just 14 grams, Elmar is also light enough for more delicate branches. PHILIPPI works with materials including stainless steel, iron, ceramics, leather and wood, with the latter giving the NES Christmas collection its particularly warm and natural character. Elmar is a lovely example of how little a design needs to have personality: beechwood, reduced shapes and a quiet sense of humour are quite enough.
