The story behind WEICH Couture Alpaca began with a connection to Peru long before the company itself was founded. Jannik Weich first travelled to the country in 2009 and, through later visits, gained a closer understanding of its people, alpaca farming and the importance of alpaca fibre to families in the Peruvian Andes. Together with David Kuttschrütter, he developed WEICH Couture Alpaca from 2017 onwards, combining traditional Peruvian craftsmanship with a German approach to quality and a focus on transparent sourcing and production. According to the brand, Royal Alpaca is used for its alpaca fur products, working with specialist partners and manufacturers in Peru. WEICH states that the hides it uses come exclusively from animals that have died naturally or are a by-product of meat production; animals are therefore not slaughtered specifically for their fur.
